Challenger Pro League (Belgium) (officially Eerste Divisie B) - the second tier of professional club football in Belgium under the Pro League and the Royal Belgian Football Association, created in 2016 to replace the former Belgian Second Division. Regulations: the competition is played as a round-robin league, in the current transitional model 17 clubs play each other home and away for 34 matches per team, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then by number of wins, goal difference, goals scored, away wins, away goal difference and away goals scored, and if still level a test match at a neutral venue is used, including extra time and a penalty shoot-out if required. Promotion: the top two teams are promoted to the top division (Jupiler Pro League), teams placed 3rd to 6th contest two-legged promotion play-offs, and the play-off winner then plays a two-legged promotion-relegation tie against a top-division opponent under the scheme set by the league. Relegation: the two lowest-ranked “classic” clubs are relegated to the top amateur level, while U23 teams are not eligible for promotion and operate under separate quota and eligibility rules set by the federation.
