Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (Brasileirão) is Brazil’s top professional club league, organised by the Brazilian Football Confederation. Regulations: 20 clubs compete in a double round-robin, each team plays 38 matches (home and away against every opponent), 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, and the final table is decided by points, then number of wins, goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results (used only when two clubs are tied, not when three or more are tied), then fewer red cards, fewer yellow cards and a drawing of lots. The club with the most points after 38 rounds is champion, the bottom four are relegated to Série B, and CONMEBOL continental places are allocated via league position and domestic cup outcomes, with any duplicated berth (for example if the Copa do Brasil winner also qualifies via the league) passed down to the next best-placed team(s) in the league table.
