Premier League (Canada) (Canadian Premier League, CPL) - Canada’s top-tier professional men’s club league organised by the Canadian Premier League and sanctioned by Canada Soccer within Concacaf. Regulations: the season is played in a single-table league format on a balanced schedule, three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss, and teams level on points are separated by a defined sequence of criteria led by total wins and head-to-head performance, then overall goal difference and goals scored, followed by away and home splits, disciplinary points and domestic under-21 minutes, with lots used only as a last resort. The regular season winner receives the CPL Shield and a berth in the Concacaf Champions Cup, while the top portion of the table qualifies for playoffs that, in the current model, are a five-match knockout pathway seeded by regular-season finish and culminating in the final for the North Star Cup. If a playoff match is level after normal time, extra time is played and then penalties if required, the playoff champion earns the second CPL berth into the Concacaf Champions Cup, and if one club wins both the regular season and the playoffs the additional berth is reassigned to the next highest regular-season seed.
