Cup (Costa Rica) (Copa Costa Rica, Torneo de Copa) - Costa Rica’s national knockout cup organised under UNAFUT in coordination with the second-tier league body (LIASCE) and the amateur league structure (LINAFA), bringing together clubs from multiple levels. Regulations: the competition is played as a knockout tournament, with the entrant list and entry rounds approved each season, and in practice it includes top-flight clubs, selected second-tier clubs, and LINAFA representatives. Early stages may include a preliminary single match, while later rounds are often played as home-and-away ties, and when a tie finishes level the winner is decided by a penalty shootout after the second leg, followed by semi-finals and a final, with the final potentially staged as a single match at a designated venue. International qualification: Costa Rican places in Concacaf club competitions are allocated under the confederation rules and national selection criteria that currently rely on league outcomes and the aggregate season table, while the cup winner earns a place in the next season Recopa.
