Primera División (Costa Rica) (Liga Promerica) - Costa Rica’s top-tier professional club league organised by UNAFUT within the national federation framework. Regulations: the season is split into two tournaments, Apertura and Clausura, each played by 10 teams in a double round-robin regular phase (18 matchdays), with points awarded 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss, and ties on points in the table broken in this order: overall goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, then a draw. The top four from the regular phase qualify for the knockout stages, with two-legged semi-finals and a two-legged final, and a two-legged Grand Final between the regular-phase winner and the second-phase winner, unless the same club wins both in which case it is crowned champion without a Grand Final. In two-legged series, match points and the aggregate score are considered, and if level on points and goals after the second leg, extra time of two 15-minute periods is played followed by a penalty shoot-out if still level. Relegation is decided by an aggregate table across the regular phases of Apertura and Clausura, with the bottom club relegated to the Liga de Ascenso, and if that club finishes in the top four of the Clausura regular phase it forfeits the playoffs and the next-best club takes its place. Continental qualification is allocated through the Apertura and Clausura champions and the best-placed clubs in the aggregate regular-season table under the season rules and the current Concacaf competition framework.
