Primera División (Cuba) (Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol de Cuba) - the top domestic division in Cuba, organised by the Asociación de Fútbol de Cuba within CONCACAF. Regulations: the league features 16 provincial representative teams and is played in two stages - Apertura and Clausura, with a fixed membership structure and no regular promotion and relegation. In the Apertura, clubs are split geographically into two groups of eight (West and East) and play a double round-robin within the group, awarding 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, group winners may contest a stage final, and the top three from each group advance to the Clausura. The Clausura is a double round-robin league of six teams, after which the top two play a single-match final to decide the national champion, with extra time and penalties applied if required by the competition rules. League tie-breakers are defined by the season regulations and in practice commonly start with goal difference and goals scored. International qualification follows the Caribbean pathway: Cuba’s champion enters the CFU Club Shield, whose winner and runner-up qualify for the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, and the Caribbean Cup awards berths to the CONCACAF Champions Cup based on final placement.
