Premier League (Egypt) - the top professional club football division of the country under the national league and federation. Regulations: 21 clubs take part and the competition is played in two stages, with a single round-robin first stage (21 rounds) using 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, after which the table is split into two groups with all points carried over: the top 7 form the title and continental places group (places 1-7) and the teams placed 8th to 21st form the relegation battle group (places 8-21). In the second stage clubs play a single round-robin within their group, so title-group clubs play 26 matches in total and relegation-group clubs play 33, and the final standings are fixed separately by group. The bottom four clubs of the second group are relegated to the Professional League and three clubs are promoted from the Professional League. Tie-breakers are applied as follows: in the first stage goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, disciplinary points, then drawing of lots, and in the second stage head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, head-to-head away goals, then overall goal difference, overall goals scored, disciplinary points and drawing of lots. Continental qualification is confirmed by the federation after the competition and engagements must comply with CAF regulations, including the rule that where an association has two CAF Champions League slots the league champion and vice-champion are engaged, and where it has two CAF Confederation Cup slots the national cup winner and the team ranked 3rd in the league are engaged, with substitutions available if a club cannot take part.
