

League One (England) (EFL League One) - the third tier of professional club football in the league system of England and Wales, below the Championship. Regulations: 24 clubs take part, the season is played as a double round-robin, with each team facing every opponent home and away, for 46 matches. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then goal difference and goals scored, then by head-to-head records among the tied teams (points, goal difference, goals scored), followed by number of wins and goals scored in away matches. If clubs are still level, disciplinary penalty points are applied, then the number of sending-off offences attracting the highest penalty points, and if required the league arranges a deciding play-off match or matches under its own organisational conditions. At the end of the season the top two clubs are promoted to the Championship, the teams finishing 3rd to 6th contest the third promotion place via play-offs with two-legged semi-finals and a single-match final, and the bottom four clubs are relegated to League Two (EFL League Two).
