Premier League (England) (Premier League, founded in 1992) - the top professional club division in the English league system, in which clubs from Wales can also participate. Regulations: 20 clubs take part, the season runs from August to May in a double round-robin, each team plays 38 matches, home and away against every opponent. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then goal difference and goals scored, if still level head-to-head points are applied, then away goals scored in head-to-head matches, and if teams remain level and the title, European qualification or relegation must be decided, an additional play-off match at a neutral venue is arranged. At the end of the season the bottom three clubs are relegated to the Championship, and UEFA competition places are allocated via the final league positions and domestic cup outcomes under the UEFA access list, with places typically going to top league finishers for the UEFA Champions League and additional places for the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League via league and cup routes, with cup-related places passing down the league table if the cup winner has already qualified through the league, and extra places possible via European titleholders and an additional UEFA Champions League place awarded to the league through UEFA’s seasonal performance mechanism.
