The Cup (France) (Coupe de France, founded in 1917) is France’s main domestic knockout cup competition, organised by the French Football Federation and open to clubs across the football pyramid, including overseas territories. Regulations: it is played as a single-elimination tournament with one-match ties and pairings decided by draw, the first-drawn team is designated the home side but if there is a gap of two divisions or more the lower-tier club hosts the match, games are 90 minutes, if level the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out without extra time from the first round through the semi-finals, while the final uses extra time and then penalties if required, the final is staged at a neutral venue, and the winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, with the berth reallocated to the next highest-placed league club not already qualified for Europe if the cup winner has already qualified via the league.
