Ligue 2 (France) - the second tier of professional club football in France, run by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP). Regulations: 18 clubs take part and play a double round-robin season, with each team playing 34 matches home and away against every opponent. Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The table is ordered by points, then overall goal difference, head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, goals scored, number of wins, number of away wins, fair-play (disciplinary points), then drawing of lots, and head-to-head criteria are applied only once both league matches between the tied teams have been played. At the end of the season the top two clubs are promoted automatically to Ligue 1, while the third promotion place is decided via play-offs (4th vs 5th, then the winner vs 3rd) followed by a two-legged promotion play-off against the team finishing 16th in Ligue 1. The bottom two clubs (17th and 18th) are relegated to the National, and the 16th-placed club plays a two-legged relegation play-off against the 3rd-placed club from the National.
