Oberliga relegation round (Relegationsspiele zur Regionalliga Nord) is a two-legged play-off for a place in Regionalliga Nord between the next best eligible and admitted club from Oberliga Niedersachsen and the lowest placed Regionalliga Nord club that does not go down automatically, typically the fourth-from-bottom or an alternative position defined by the league’s vacancy rules. Regulations: the tie is played home and away, with the Oberliga Niedersachsen representative hosting the first leg, and the winner earns the right to compete in Regionalliga Nord in the next season, which can mean promotion for the Oberliga club or survival for the Regionalliga club. The outcome is decided after the second leg by the total points taken across the two matches, if points are level the aggregate goal difference across both games is used, and if still level the second leg goes to extra time (2x15 minutes) and then penalties if required, with no away-goals rule in this procedure.
