Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar - a regional fifth-tier division in the German league system and the top league for Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, administered by the Southwestern Regional Football Association (Fußball-Regional-Verband „Südwest“). Regulations: the competition is played as a league, typically with 18 clubs in a double round-robin home-and-away schedule, with points awarded 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. If teams finish level on points, the relevant tie-break sequence used for promotion and relegation matters applies: goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head record, and if still level decider matches are staged. The champion earns sporting qualification for the Regionalliga Südwest subject to admission, while the runner-up, or the next eligible club down to 4th place, typically plays a promotion round with the runners-up of the Hessenliga and the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg for an additional Regionalliga Südwest spot. Relegation numbers are set before the season and can vary, with teams usually dropping into the top state leagues feeding the Oberliga. The competition does not award UEFA qualification.
