Relegation is at least three clubs, with the number increasing by the count of teams relegated from the 3. Liga into the Regionalliga Südwest allocation, while vacancies are typically filled by eligible Oberliga champions from the feeder regions, and where applicable an additional place is decided via play-offs among the relevant runners-up.
