

Úrvalsdeild (Iceland) (Úrvalsdeild karla, Besta deild karla, Bestadeildin) - the top tier of the Icelandic club league system organised by the Football Association of Iceland. Regulations: 12 clubs take part, the first stage is a double round robin, then the season continues with a second stage split into two groups - the top six play a single round against each other and the bottom six play a single round against each other, with all points carried over, wins are worth 3 points, draws 1 and losses 0, ties on points are broken by goal difference, goals scored, points in head-to-head matches, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, away goals scored in head-to-head matches, and if still level an extra match may be required. The bottom two clubs are relegated to the second tier, while the second-tier champion and the winner of a promotion play-off involving teams placed 2 to 5 go up.
