Úrvalsdeild (Iceland) (Úrvalsdeild karla, Besta deild karla, Bestadeildin) - the top tier of the Icelandic club league system organised by the Football Association of Iceland. Regulations: 12 clubs take part, the first stage is a double round robin, then the season continues with a second stage split into two groups - the top six play a single round against each other and the bottom six play a single round against each other, with all points carried over, wins are worth 3 points, draws 1 and losses 0, ties on points are broken by goal difference, goals scored, points in head-to-head matches, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, away goals scored in head-to-head matches, and if still level an extra match may be required. The bottom two clubs are relegated to the second tier, while the second-tier champion and the winner of a promotion play-off involving teams placed 2 to 5 go up. UEFA places are allocated according to the association access list, typically with the league champion entering UEFA Champions League qualifying and further places, including the domestic cup winner slot, going to UEFA Conference League qualifying, with reallocation to the next eligible league position when required.
