The Italian Super Cup (Supercoppa Italiana, held since 1988) is Lega Serie A’s official super cup competition and it is played in a Final Four format. Regulations: four clubs qualify, namely the Serie A champions and runners-up plus the Coppa Italia winners and runners-up, and if one club occupies more than one slot the vacancy is filled by the next best-placed Serie A team until four participants are confirmed. The competition features three matches, two semi-finals and a final, and under the current rules the semi-final pairings are set as Serie A champions vs Coppa Italia runners-up and Coppa Italia winners vs Serie A runners-up. All matches are single-leg ties at a neutral venue, played over 90 minutes and, if level, decided immediately by a penalty shootout with no extra time. The host venue is designated by the league in agreement with the organisers.
