Higher League (Latvia) (Virslīga) - the top professional club division in Latvia under the Latvian Football Federation. Regulations: typically 10 clubs take part, the season is played from March to November, teams play each other in four rounds for 36 matches per club, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The table is decided by points, then goal difference, goals scored and then the season head-to-head criteria (head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, head-to-head away goals), followed by disciplinary points and then drawing of lots if required. At the end of the season the 10th-placed team is relegated to the 1st League, the 9th-placed team plays a two-legged relegation play-off home and away against the team finishing 2nd in the 1st League, and the 1st League champion is promoted to Virslīga. UEFA qualification is based on final league positions and the Latvian Cup, subject to club licensing: the league champion enters UEFA Champions League qualifying and the cup winner plus two further teams enter UEFA Conference League qualifying.
