Challenge Cup (Malta) (Challenge Cup) - an annual national knockout cup organised by the Malta Football Association for clubs from the Maltese Challenge League and the Gozo First Division. Regulations: the competition is played on a straight knockout basis, with a preliminary round used when the number of entrants exceeds 16 to reduce the field to 16, followed by the Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final. Each match is 90 minutes, if level extra time is played as 15 minutes each way, and if still level the winner is decided by a penalty shootout. Entry is by registration, with participating clubs required to confirm their intention to compete by 1 July before the season, and matches are played under MFA rules and the Laws of the Game.
