

The Dutch Super Cup (Johan Cruijff Shield, Johan Cruijff Schaal, played in its modern form since 1991) is the traditional season curtain-raiser in the Netherlands contested by the Eredivisie champions and the KNVB Cup (KNVB Beker) holders. Regulations: it is a single match, the league champions are designated as the nominal home team, the venue is set by the organiser and is typically the champions’ stadium, if level after 90 minutes there is no extra time and the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out, and if one club wins both the league and the cup the opponent is the Eredivisie runners-up.
