Liga Primera (Nicaragua) (Liga Primera de Nicaragua) - the top professional club division in Nicaragua, run by the Nicaraguan Club Association and sanctioned by FENIFUT. Regulations: the season is split into two tournaments, Apertura and Clausura, each played by 10 clubs with a double round-robin regular phase of 18 matchdays and a 3-1-0 points system; if teams are level on points, positions are decided in order by goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head result, and Fair Play disciplinary points. After the regular phase, 1st and 2nd advance directly to the semifinals, teams 3rd to 6th play a single-leg repechage hosted by the higher seed with no away-goals criterion, then semifinals and the final are played over two legs, away goals do not apply, and ties on aggregate go to extra time and penalties. Relegation is based on an aggregate table combining Apertura and Clausura points: 10th is relegated to Liga de Ascenso, while 9th plays a two-leg playoff versus the Liga de Ascenso runner-up with no away-goals criterion, and aggregate ties go to extra time and penalties. The Apertura and Clausura champions qualify as Nicaragua representatives for the Concacaf Central American Cup, and if the same club wins both tournaments the second berth is assigned per the competition rules and subject to club licensing.
