División Intermedia (Paraguay) (División Intermedia) - Paraguay’s second-tier professional club league organised by the Paraguayan Football Association. Regulations: the league features 16 clubs playing a double round-robin home-and-away schedule for 30 matches each, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Rankings are decided by points and then head-to-head and statistical criteria, and if a decisive position remains tied the APF regulations allow a one-off playoff match for two teams or, for three or more teams, the application of goal and away-goal criteria before a drawing of lots. Promotion: the top two teams are promoted to Paraguay’s Primera División. Relegation: the three clubs with the lowest points-per-game average under the multi-season promedio system are relegated to the third tier, with Greater Asunción clubs going to Primera División B and clubs from outside that area going to Primera División B Nacional. International qualification for CONMEBOL competitions is generally linked to the top division, with a possible exception for the Copa Paraguay champion.
