The Portuguese Super Cup (Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, played since 1979) is Portugal’s official season curtain-raiser contested by the previous season’s Primeira Liga champions and the Taça de Portugal winners. Regulations: it is a single match at a neutral venue on a date set by the Portuguese Football Federation, and participation is mandatory for the qualified clubs. If one club wins both the league and the cup, the opponent is the Taça de Portugal runners-up. If level after 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time are played and, if still level, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out.
