Emir Cup (Qatar) (Amir Cup) - Qatar’s premier domestic knockout cup competition organised by the Qatar Football Association. Regulations: the current model is expanded to 20 teams and includes 12 top-tier clubs and eight Second Division clubs, with a preliminary round played by the eight Second Division teams in pairings set by final standings as 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th, and 4th vs 5th, and the four winners join the 12 top-tier clubs in the Round of 16. From that point the competition is played as single-match knockouts at each stage, in the preliminary round a drawn match after 90 minutes goes to two 15-minute extra-time periods and then penalties, and the method of deciding tied matches in later rounds follows the competition regulations for the season. The winner qualifies for AFC club competition via Qatar’s allocation and licensing requirements, with the specific entries governed by the AFC access list.
