The Russian Super Cup is an official season-opening one-match competition contested by the national league champions and the Russian Cup winners from the previous season. Regulations: the match is 90 minutes and, if level, it goes straight to a penalty shoot-out with no extra time. If the same club wins both the league and the cup, the opponent is the league runners-up. The date is set by the RFU, the venue is designated as a neutral stadium by the organiser, and the league champion is treated as the nominal home team for administrative purposes.
