Championship (Scotland) (Scottish Championship) - the second tier of professional club football in Scotland, operated by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). Regulations: the competition is played as a league with 10 clubs, teams face each other four times (home and away across the season), three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. If clubs finish level on points, positions are decided by overall goal difference, then goals scored, then points in head-to-head league matches, then head-to-head goal difference, and if a position still cannot be separated and it affects the title, promotion, relegation, play-off participation or qualification for other competitions, a deciding play-off match is arranged at a neutral venue with extra time and penalties if required. The champions are promoted to the Scottish Premiership (Scottish Premiership), while the teams placed 2-4 contest a promotion play-off that ultimately leads to a two-legged final against the 11th-placed Scottish Premiership club, with extra time and penalties after the second leg if aggregate scores are level. The bottom club is relegated to Scottish League One (Scottish League One), and the 9th-placed club enters a relegation play-off against the teams placed 2-4 in Scottish League One, played over two legs with extra time and penalties after the second leg if needed.
