Regulations: it is a straight knock-out competition, with entry open to clubs holding full membership of the association and additional clubs admitted under associate-membership rules, and the competition typically begins with preliminary rounds before moving through the main rounds to a one-off final. Most rounds are played as single-leg ties, with the draw setting the match-ups and the home club under the organiser’s rules. Beyond the preliminary rounds, replays are not used, and if level after 90 minutes extra time is played and, if still level, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out. The winners earn a Scottish association UEFA berth, typically a place in UEFA Europa League qualifying, and if the cup winners have already secured a UEFA place via the league the berth is reallocated under the association’s distribution rules.
