

League Cup (Scotland) (Scottish League Cup (Premier Sports Cup)) - a national Scottish club cup competition organised by the Scottish Professional Football League. Regulations: 45 teams take part, the format combines a group stage and knock-out rounds, the group stage has eight groups of five with each team playing four matches, three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw, if a group match ends level a penalty shoot-out is held to award a bonus point, group positions are decided by points then goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, matches won, away matches won, head-to-head record and then drawing of lots, the group winners and the three best runners-up advance to the round of 16 and are joined by five clubs involved in UEFA competitions, from the round of 16 onwards ties are single-leg with extra time and, if required, penalties, winning the tournament does not currently guarantee UEFA qualification as Scottish UEFA places are allocated via the league and the Scottish Cup.
