The Premiership (Scotland) (Scottish Premiership) is the top level of professional club football in Scotland, created in 2013 after the national leagues were unified under the Scottish Professional Football League. Tournament regulations: 12 clubs take part, each team plays 38 league matches per season - across the first 33 fixtures teams play one another three times, then the table splits into a top six and bottom six and each club plays a further five matches within its section. Clubs receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head points and head-to-head goal difference. If teams are still level and the position impacts the title, the post-33 split, promotion, relegation, play-offs or European qualification, a deciding match at a neutral venue is played with extra time and penalties if required. At season end, 12th place is relegated to the Championship and 11th enters a three-round, two-legged play-off against the Championship teams finishing 2nd to 4th, with extra time and penalties used if a tie is level on aggregate after the second leg.
