South African First Division (Motsepe Foundation Championship, National First Division) - the second-tier professional league in South African club football, administered within the PSL system. Regulations: the competition is played as a double round-robin league with home and away matches, awarding 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The league table is ranked by points, then overall goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head results applying the same criteria within the tied clubs, and if teams still remain level a play-off match is scheduled at a neutral venue. The league winner is promoted automatically to the South African top flight (Betway Premiership), while the teams finishing 2nd and 3rd enter a promotion play-off together with the club finishing 15th in the top flight, and the play-off winner takes a place in the top flight for the following season. The bottom two clubs are relegated to SAFA promotional leagues, and two clubs from those leagues are promoted into the division.
