Premiership (South Africa) (Betway Premiership, South African Premiership) - the top tier of South Africa’s professional club league system operated by the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Regulations: the league comprises 16 clubs and is played as a double round-robin with home and away matches, awarding 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. If teams are level on points, positions are decided by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, and if the teams remain fully level, head-to-head results among the tied teams are applied using the same sequence, repeated as needed for any teams that remain tied, with a neutral-venue play-off match possible if equality still cannot be broken. At season end, the bottom club is relegated to the second tier, while the 15th-placed club enters a promotion play-off with the 2nd- and 3rd-placed clubs from the second tier, and the winner earns a place in the top division for the next season. Qualification for CAF club competitions depends on the association’s allocation and club licensing, with the standard South African pathway sending the league champion and runners-up to the CAF Champions League and allocating the CAF Confederation Cup berth to the Nedbank Cup winner, passing it to the cup runner-up if the winner is already in the Champions League, and to the 4th-placed league club if both cup finalists are already Champions League qualifiers.
