

La Liga (Spain) (founded in 1929) - the top professional club division in Spain. Regulations: 20 clubs take part, the season is usually played from August to May in a double round-robin format, with each team playing 38 matches, home and away against every other side. Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The table is ordered by points, with ties primarily decided by head-to-head criteria between the teams concerned, then by season-wide metrics and, if required, by drawing of lots. At the end of the season the champions are determined by the final standings and the bottom three clubs (18th-20th) are relegated to the Segunda División. European qualification is normally allocated as follows: 1st-4th - UEFA Champions League, 5th - UEFA Europa League, 6th - UEFA Conference League, the Copa del Rey winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League and if the cup winner has already qualified through the league, the European places pass down the league table, while the country’s quota may increase under UEFA rules.
