The Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España, founded in 1982) is an official RFEF competition played in a Final Four format. Regulations: four clubs qualify - the two Copa del Rey finalists plus the teams finishing 1st and 2nd in La Liga, and if a cup finalist already occupies one of those league positions the relevant league berth is passed down the table until four participants are confirmed. The tournament is played across three matchdays with two semi-finals and a final, all as single-elimination one-off matches, decided over 90 minutes and, if level, straight by a penalty shootout with no extra time. The venue is set by the organiser, and current competition rules provide for the matches to be staged in Saudi Arabia unless an alternative location is approved.
