Swiss Promotion League (Switzerland) (Promotion League, also 1. Liga Promotion) - the third tier of the Swiss league system, played under the Swiss Football Association umbrella within the Erste Liga competitions structure. Regulations: the league is played as a single-table competition, typically with 18 clubs, each team plays all others twice home and away, and points are awarded 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. If teams are level on points, the ranking is decided by overall goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head goal difference among the tied teams, then away goals scored, and finally by drawing of lots. At season end, promotion to the Swiss Challenge League is granted to the highest-placed club that holds the required Swiss Football League licence, if an eligible club declines the place it is reassigned to the next licensed club, and U21 teams are not eligible for promotion. The bottom two clubs are relegated to the Swiss 1st League Classic, and the division does not allocate direct UEFA competition berths.
