League 2 (Thailand) (Thai League 2) - the second tier of Thailand’s professional league system. Regulations: the competition is a double round-robin league with home and away matches, awarding 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. When teams are level on points, the ranking sequence is defined by the season regulations and in the standard model moves from head-to-head results among the tied teams to head-to-head goal difference and head-to-head goals scored, then to overall goal difference and overall goals scored, followed by disciplinary criteria, with an additional play-off match and penalties possible if equality persists. In some seasons the governing body explicitly amends the first ranking criterion, for example prioritising overall goal difference across all matches instead of head-to-head. At season end, the top 2 teams are promoted to Thai League 1, teams placed 3rd to 6th enter a promotion play-off for one additional spot, and the bottom three are relegated to Thai League 3. The promotion play-off is played over two legs in each round, the round winner is determined by points across the two matches under the 3-1-0 system, then away goals, then extra time without away goals and penalties if required. Thailand’s AFC club competition slots are typically allocated via top-division and domestic-cup outcomes, so clubs from Thai League 2 generally reach continental competition by earning promotion first.
