Cup (Uruguay) (Copa AUF Uruguay) - Uruguay’s national domestic cup competition for clubs across different levels, organised under the Uruguayan Football Association and integrating AUF and Interior football representatives. Regulations: the current model is played with 32 teams, with the field drawn from AUF Primera and Segunda clubs, AUF amateur divisions and clubs representing the Interior organisation, the bracket is set by a draw and the tournament is played as a straight knockout. Ties are generally single-match elimination, early rounds apply a hosting principle that gives amateur sides home advantage against professional-league opponents, and if level after 90 minutes the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out with no extra time, while from the later stages neutral venues may be designated by the organisers. The winner earns an international berth within Uruguay’s allocation, and in the current model the cup winner is awarded a place in the next season Copa Libertadores, with the berth reassigned to the next eligible club under domestic rules if the winner has already qualified through league performance.
