Segunda División (Uruguay) (Segunda División Profesional) - the second-tier professional club league in Uruguay, organized under the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF). Regulations: the season commonly begins with a Torneo Competencia stage played as a single round-robin split into two groups of seven, with the group winners meeting in a final, followed by the main regular stage played as a double round-robin, while the carry-over of Torneo Competencia points into the overall standings is defined by the season statutes. Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. If teams finish level on points, positions are decided by goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head results applying points, goal difference and goals scored. The top two teams in the overall table earn direct promotion to the Uruguayan Primera División, and an additional promotion place is decided via promotion play-offs among the next four teams, typically in two-legged knockouts settled on aggregate, with extra time and penalties used if required. Relegation is usually two clubs and is determined by an averages table (promedios) that may include points from the previous season, with special treatment for newly promoted clubs. The league does not award direct CONMEBOL competition places, as international qualification is achieved through top-division results after promotion.
