

CAF Champions League (Confederation of African Football club competition, formerly the African Cup of Champions Clubs) - the premier continental club tournament in African football. Regulations: the competition is played in two phases, starting with the Preliminary Round and Second Preliminary Round as two-legged ties home and away, the winner is decided on aggregate, if level after the second leg the away goals rule applies, and if still level or both legs ended 0-0 the tie is decided by a penalty shoot-out with no extra time. The Group Stage then features 16 clubs split into 4 groups of 4, each team plays 6 home and away matches, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, and ties on points are broken by head-to-head criteria and then overall group criteria set out in the regulations. The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage, the Quarterfinals and Semifinals are played over two legs, the winner is decided on aggregate, if level the away goals rule applies, and if still level the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out with no extra time. The Final is played as a single match in a host country chosen by the organiser, if level after 90 minutes extra time is played as two 15-minute periods and, if still level, a penalty shoot-out decides the champions.
