

CONCACAF Gold Cup (Spanish: Copa Oro) - the premier CONCACAF national-team tournament, staged since 1991. Regulations: the competition includes qualifying and a final tournament, with CONCACAF defining the qualification pathway and the participating teams, and the final tournament in the current format is built for 16 teams and is played as a group stage followed by a knockout stage. In the group stage teams are drawn into four groups of four and play one match against each other team in their group, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, group positions are decided by points, then goal difference and goals scored, and if teams remain level the ranking is determined by results among the tied teams, then by disciplinary points based on yellow and red cards and finally by the drawing of lots. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals, the knockout stage consists of quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final, and if a knockout match is level after regular time extra time is played and, if required, the winner is decided by penalties, while the regulations also allow one invited guest team from outside the confederation at CONCACAF’s discretion.
