

Olympic Games (football) (Olympic Football Tournament) - the football competition at the Summer Olympic Games contested by national teams under the IOC and FIFA framework. Regulations: the competition consists of separate men’s and women’s tournaments, Olympic qualification is run via continental qualifying competitions, and the final tournament uses a group stage followed by a knockout stage, group matches may end in a draw, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, and teams level on points are ranked by goal difference and goals scored, then by head-to-head criteria among the teams concerned (points, goal difference, goals scored), followed by fair play points based on disciplinary records and, if still level, drawing of lots. The men’s tournament is an under-23 competition with up to three over-age players permitted, while there are no age restrictions in the women’s tournament. A match is 90 minutes, and if a knockout match is level after normal time, extra time is played as two 15-minute periods and, if still level, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out.
