The Atlantic Cup (Portugal) - a pre-season club friendly tournament staged in Portugal. Regulations: the format and the number of participating teams are set by the organisers for each edition, teams play a limited number of matches and the winner is decided by the overall standings on total points. Matches are played over 90 minutes with no extra time, if level after 90 minutes the game goes straight to a penalty shoot-out, while the match remains recorded as a draw for statistical purposes and the shoot-out does not affect goals scored, goals conceded or goal difference. The points system awards 3 points for a win in normal time and 0 for a loss, a draw is worth 1 point, and the penalty shoot-out winner receives one additional point, meaning a draw followed by a shoot-out win is worth 2 points and a draw followed by a shoot-out loss is worth 1 point. Under the current rules, a bonus point is also awarded for a normal-time win when the winning team scores more than two goals. If teams are level on points, rankings are determined by goal difference, then goals scored, then fewer goals conceded, and if still level the placing is decided by drawing of lots.
