

Champions League (UEFA Champions League, founded in 1955, formerly the European Champion Clubs' Cup) - UEFA’s annual international club competition that determines the champion club of Europe. Regulations: from the 2024/25 season the main stage is a single 36-club league phase, each team plays 8 matches against 8 different opponents (4 home and 4 away), opponents are decided by a draw from 4 seeding pots so that each club faces 2 opponents from each pot, one at home and one away. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss, the league table is ranked by points and, if level on points, the tie-breakers apply in order as goal difference, goals scored, away goals scored, wins, away wins, points obtained collectively by league phase opponents, collective goal difference of league phase opponents, goals scored collectively by league phase opponents, lower disciplinary points total (red card - 3, yellow card - 1, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match - 3), then UEFA club coefficient. Teams ranked 1-8 advance directly to the round of 16, teams ranked 9-24 play knockout phase play-offs for places in the round of 16, teams ranked 25-36 are eliminated. From the round of 16 to the semi-finals ties are played over two legs home and away, the final is a single match at a neutral venue, the away goals rule is not used, if a tie is level on aggregate extra time is played at the end of the second leg and, if still level, a penalty shoot-out decides the winner.
