

The Nations League (UEFA Nations League) - an international national-team competition for UEFA member associations, typically played in cycles, generally every two years. Regulations: teams are allocated to Leagues A, B, C and D, with Leagues A, B and C each containing 16 teams split into four groups of four, and League D containing six teams split into two groups of three. The league phase is played as a home-and-away round-robin within each group, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss, group positions are decided by points and, if level, by head-to-head criteria in order (points, goal difference, goals scored), with those criteria reapplied if needed to the remaining tied teams, then by overall goal difference, overall goals scored, overall away goals scored, overall wins, overall away wins, disciplinary points, and finally the team’s position in the access list for the relevant edition. After the league phase, the League A group winners and runners-up advance to two-legged quarter-finals decided on aggregate, if level after two legs extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out are played at the end of the second leg, the quarter-final winners qualify for the finals, where the semi-finals, third-place match and final are single matches, if level after normal time in a semi-final or the final extra time and penalties are used, while the third-place match goes straight to penalties if level. Promotion and relegation between leagues is determined by final positions and play-offs: the group winners in Leagues B and C, and the group winners in League D, are promoted, the bottom teams in each group in Leagues A and B are relegated, the two lowest-ranked fourth-placed teams in League C are relegated to League D, and additional league allocation places between adjacent leagues are settled in two-legged play-offs.
