UEFA U17 Championship - Qualification

EURO U17 - Qualifying (UEFA European Under-17 Championship - qualifying competition) is the qualification phase for the UEFA national-team tournament at under-17 level and is played as mini-tournaments hosted in one of the group countries. Regulations: qualifying has two rounds, in each round teams play each other once, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat, and group positions are decided by points. In round 1 the entrants are drawn into 14 groups of three or four teams, and the group winners and runners-up advance to round 2 in League A while the remaining teams take part in round 2 in League B. In round 2, League A consists of seven groups of four teams and League B consists of seven groups of three or four teams, the seven League A group winners qualify for the final tournament and, if a vacancy arises (including when the host of the final tournament has already qualified as a group winner), it is filled by the best League A runner-up based on the overall ranking. If teams are level on points within a group, the tie-breakers are applied in order as head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, with those head-to-head criteria reapplied if needed only to the remaining tied teams, then overall goal difference, overall goals scored, disciplinary points (red card 3, yellow card 1, expulsion for two yellows in one match 3), and then the relevant UEFA ranking position, and if two teams have the same points and the same goals scored and conceded and they play each other in the last match of the mini-tournament, their positions are decided by a penalty shoot-out provided no other team in the group finishes level on points. For overall rankings across groups (including to identify the best League A runner-up), the criteria are group position, then points, goal difference, goals scored, disciplinary points and the relevant ranking position, and for certain cross-group comparisons results against fourth-placed teams may be excluded.
