If teams are level on points in a group, positions are determined by criteria applied in order: head-to-head points among the tied teams, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, if necessary these criteria are re-applied only to matches among the teams that remain tied, then overall goal difference in all group matches, overall goals scored in all group matches, the disciplinary ranking based on yellow and red cards, then FIFA national-team ranking positions. To determine the 8 best teams from 3rd place, the criteria are points, goal difference, goals scored, disciplinary ranking, then FIFA ranking positions. In the knockout matches, if level after normal time, extra time of 2 periods of 15 minutes is played, and if still level the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out.
