

World Cup Qualifiers - Africa (CAF) - the African national-team qualification competition for FIFA World Cup places. Regulations: 54 teams take part, they are drawn into 9 groups of 6 teams, the group stage is played home and away as a double round-robin, the winner of each group qualifies directly for the FIFA World Cup, and the 4 best group runners-up advance to a CAF continental play-off, with the winner earning the right to compete in the FIFA inter-confederation play-off tournament. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss, if teams are level on points in a group the ranking criteria are applied in order as goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head points among the tied teams, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, head-to-head away goals, then the team conduct score across all group matches (yellow - minus 1, second yellow and indirect red - minus 3, direct red - minus 4, yellow plus direct red - minus 5), then drawing of lots.
