

FIFA World Cup qualification - Europe is the qualifying competition for European national teams that determines UEFA’s representatives at the FIFA World Cup final tournament. Tournament regulations: since the 2026 World Cup qualifying cycle an expanded format with 54 teams and 16 berths has been used - teams are split into 12 groups of 4 or 5 and play a home-and-away double round-robin, group winners qualify directly for the final tournament, and the remaining four places are decided in play-offs involving all group runners-up and UEFA Nations League group winners that did not finish in the top two of their qualifying group.
