The 2. Bundesliga, or 2. Bundesliga, is the second-highest division of football in Germany, founded in 1974. The league includes 18 teams that compete for three places in the top division, the Bundesliga. The season lasts from July to May and consists of two rounds in which each team plays 34 matches (home and away).

The tournament format provides for the two best teams at the end of the season to receive direct tickets to the Bundesliga. The third team plays a play-off with the 16th team of the Bundesliga for the right to promotion. The last three teams of the 2. Bundesliga are relegated to the 3. Liga.

The 2023/2024 season ended with an intriguing fight for promotion. Hamburger SV and Hertha Berlin, who were relegated from the Bundesliga in previous seasons, showed strong results and took the first two places, securing their return to the top division. Third place, which gives the right to participate in the play-offs, was taken by St. Pauli.

The play-offs are traditionally one of the most dramatic events of the season. In 2023/2024, St. Pauli fought with Augsburg for a place in the Bundesliga. The matches were tense, and St. Pauli managed to win on aggregate, securing a place in the top division.

The 2. Bundesliga is known for its high competitiveness and unpredictability. The league combines clubs with a rich history and young ambitious teams. For example, Hamburger SV, one of the most titled clubs in Germany, spent several seasons in the second league before returning to the Bundesliga.

Among the outstanding players of the 2. Bundesliga, it is worth mentioning Simon Terodde, who holds the record for the most goals in the history of the league. In recent years, players such as Serdar Dursun, who was the top scorer in the 2020/2021 season, and Robert Glatzel, who played a key role in Hamburger SV's success, have also stood out.

The 2. Bundesliga is also famous for its derbies and major rivalries. Matches between Hamburger SV and St. Pauli or Hannover and Braunschweig attract a lot of attention from fans and are always played in a tense atmosphere.

An interesting fact about the 2. Bundesliga is its high attendance. The league is regularly among the most attended second divisions in the world. Fans appreciate the emotion and intensity of the matches, making the 2. Bundesliga one of the most exciting football tournaments.

The tournament continues to be an important part of German football, offering teams the opportunity to fight for promotion and strive for the top of German football. The 2. Bundesliga is an important arena for developing young talent and giving them the chance to prove themselves at a high level.
