The Argentine Cup, also known as the Copa Argentina, is a national cup tournament that has been organized since 1969, but acquired its modern form in 2011 after a long break. This tournament brings together teams from all levels of Argentine football, from the most elite clubs of the Primera to teams from the lower leagues and even regional leagues. This makes the Copa Argentina a unique and democratic competition, where every club has a chance to succeed, regardless of its status.

The tournament format is a straight elimination: each match consists of a single match, where the winner goes to the next round, and the loser is eliminated from the competition. In the event of a draw after regular time, penalty shootouts are appointed without additional overtime, which adds extra tension and unpredictability to each match.

The Copa Argentina gives clubs not only the opportunity to win a trophy, but also to earn a ticket to international competitions. The winner of the tournament automatically qualifies for the Copa Libertadores, which adds special importance to the competition for teams aspiring to play at the continental level.

An interesting feature of the tournament is the regular upsets when lesser-known clubs defeat the giants of Argentine football. For example, in 2013, Estudiantes Caseros, a club playing in Primera B Metropolitana (third division), reached the semi-finals, knocking out teams such as Banfield and Argentinos Juniors along the way. Such cases highlight that the Copa Argentina is a tournament where every match can bring an unexpected result.

Among the most successful clubs in the history of the Cup, Boca Juniors stands out, having won the trophy four times since the tournament was resumed in 2011. In 2021, the club confirmed its status again by defeating Talleres in the final. Other clubs such as River Plate and Rosario Central also have impressive records in this tournament, reaching the final stages on several occasions.
