The Polish Football Championship, known as the Ekstraklasa, is the top division of professional football in Poland. The league was founded in 1927 and has since become the country's premier football competition. The Ekstraklasa features 18 teams, each of which plays 34 matches per season: one at home and one away against each opponent. The season traditionally begins in July and ends in May of the following year.
The team that finishes first becomes the champion of Poland and gains the right to participate in the UEFA Champions League. The teams that finish second and third go to the UEFA Conference League. The bottom three teams at the end of the season are relegated to the First League, giving way to the best teams from the lower division.
The history of the Ekstraklasa is rich in interesting events and great teams. For example, the Legia Warsaw club is the most decorated club in Poland, having won many national championships. In recent years, Lech Poznań and Piast Gliwice have also achieved significant success, becoming champions and representing Poland on the international stage.
An interesting fact is that the Polish championship is characterized by high attendance and passionate fans. Big clubs such as Legia and Lech regularly gather full stadiums, creating an atmosphere that inspires the teams to perform brilliantly. The average attendance of matches in recent years has been over 10 thousand spectators per game.
