The Azerbaijan Premier League, also known as the Azerbaijan Premier League (Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası), is the top division of the country's football league system. Founded in 1992, the Premier League has become a central element of Azerbaijan's football culture, attracting the country's best teams and giving them the opportunity to compete for the title of champion.

Tournament regulations:

The Azerbaijan Premier League is made up of 10 teams, each of which plays 36 matches per season - four games against each opponent (two matches at home and two away). The season begins in August and ends in May. At the end of the season, the team that finishes first is crowned the champion of Azerbaijan and earns the right to participate in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. The teams that finish second and third earn the right to participate in the UEFA Conference League.

The team finishing last may be relegated to the second division, the Azerbaijan First League, giving way to the winner of this division. However, in some seasons, the format of transition between divisions may change depending on the decisions of the Azerbaijan Football Federation.

Interesting facts and statistics:

1. Qarabag dominance: Qarabag Football Club from Aghdam has been the dominant force in Azerbaijani football in recent years. The club has won numerous championship titles and is a regular participant in European tournaments, which has earned it recognition not only at the national but also at the international level.
2. History and development: The Azerbaijan Premier League was founded immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and has developed significantly since then. The country's early champions included clubs such as Neftchi Baku and Kapaz Ganja, which also have a rich history and tradition. 3. Stadiums: In recent years, several modern stadiums have been built in Azerbaijan, such as the Tofik Bahramov Stadium in Baku, which has a capacity of over 30,000 spectators. These arenas create an impressive atmosphere during matches and contribute to the growth of football’s popularity in the country.
4. Participation in European tournaments: Azerbaijani clubs regularly participate in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. Qarabag has been particularly successful in this regard, reaching the group stages of these tournaments on several occasions, which has contributed to strengthening the image of Azerbaijani football on the international stage.
5. Financial support: The Azerbaijan Premier League receives significant financial support from the state and private sponsors, which allows clubs to attract qualified foreign players and coaches, improving the overall level of football in the country.
